TRACK #5: https://soundcloud.com/richard-martini-martinizone/anthy-martin-in-the-living-room-part-five

She crossed over in 2011, but thanks to the internet, her amazing hands and fantastic sight reading live on.  She has a CD for sale on itunes and Amazon and CREATE SPACE and CD baby.com

Growing up in Decatur Illinois, she became a virtuoso at 18 and played many Embassies in Washington DC during WWII. Her father was the National Commander of the American Legion, and later assistant secretary of the Navy under Frank Know. She married R. Charles Martini, an architect, and moved to Chicago where they made their home.  She raised four boys but managed to continue playing with the Chicago Symphony's First Chairs who held impromptu sessions in their living room in Northbrook.

These are just some of her tunes, more to come.

Some of these were shot on my cell, others on my digital camera.. enjo

  1. Hello, my name is Maureen. My mother, who will be 90 in two months, went to Dunbarton with your mother. It was natural, she says, they that become friends, what with your mom from Decatur and mine from Rockford. Anyway, I was at my folks' house on Friday and my mom had received her Christmas card back-- the one she sent your mom. So she asked me to help her "find Anthy." I sat down at their computer and typed in Ann Hayes Martini and found her obituary right away. I imagine my mother, at her age, suspected her passing. But what joy it brought her to see and hear her playing! I made a shortcut on her desktop so that she can return to it again and again.

  3. Thanks Maureen! I shared this email with my family - it was amazing that she asked me to record her playing music for our dad's funeral - as she knew she wouldn't be able to emotionally handle it. But then years later, that recording was playing at hers - so she played at her own funeral. An amazing person, she loved her friends, and I'm sure she loved your mom. I'll check with the post office, as her letters used to come to me, and I was able to reply with them. Will send you a private note - there's a CD of her music - click on the link above if you want to get your mom a CD and play it in the car... best, RM
